Comedian Tanmay Bhat ‘steps away' from AIB amid #MeToo allegations

Bhat is facing accusations that he did not act on complaints against Utsav Chakraborty, a YouTuber and ex-AIB member who was called out on social media last week. In the interim, Ashish Shakya, Rohan Joshi and other senior team members will be responsible for the future decisions to be made at the company

Star comedian Tanmay Bhat has been asked to ‘step away’ from his association with ‘All India Bakchod (AIB) until further notice, which implies that Bhat won’t be involved in AIB’s day-to-day functioning in any manner. Tanmay Bhat is facing accusations that he did not act on complaints against Utsav Chakraborty, a YouTuber and ex-AIB member who was called out on social media last week.

Bhat has been asked to dissociate with the company in the tide of the current #MeToo Movement where allegations against a lot of media professionals’ names are coming up on social media.

The company said in a statement, “We have been closely monitoring the sequence of events on social media around the allegations against AIB and also against our co-founder and CEO Tanmay Bhatt. We cannot overlook Tamnay’s role and in light of this, he will be stepping away from his association with AIB until further notice.”

Regarding allegations made against Gursimran Khamba, he has been placed on a ‘temporary leave of absence’ until the company has more clarity on the matter as the ‘allegations pertains to private matter’.

The statement also mentioned that “We do not know what this means for the future of AIB or whether there is one. In the interim, Ashish Shakya, Rohan Joshi and other senior team members will work towards being able to answer that question over the next several months.”
