New Delhi: Former YouTuber Nalini Unagar has raised concerns over a price discrepancy she encountered while ordering food through delivery platform Zomato. Unagar shared that her order, consisting of Veg Manchurian Dry and Chinese Bhel, should have cost Rs 320. However, the platform’s bill showed a total of Rs 655, and after applying available discounts, she was required to pay Rs 550—a charge she described as “absolutely insane.”

In her social media post, Unagar criticised Zomato directly, stating that customers are being “blatantly overcharged” and requested clarification on the pricing.

Zomato responded, noting that prices on the app are “solely determined by restaurant partners.” The company added that it functions as an intermediary and said it would share her feedback with the restaurant.

The response prompted further discussion online. One user highlighted that while restaurants set the prices, Zomato should provide transparency on commissions, advertising fees and payment charges it collects.

They argued that restaurants may raise menu prices to cover platform fees rather than for additional profit and emphasised that Zomato has a responsibility for price clarity given the influence of its business model.

The post has sparked wider conversation on social media about rising third-party food delivery costs and the lack of transparency in online menus.
