New Delhi: Instagram has begun rolling out Meta AI-powered translation, dubbing and lip-sync features for reels in five additional Indian languages, Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Marathi, broadening access beyond Hindi, English, Spanish and Portuguese.

While the expansion was first announced in November 2025, the feature is now being made available to users across platforms, including Instagram and Facebook. The update allows creators to translate their reels while preserving the tone and sound of their original voice, with an optional lip-sync function that matches translated audio to mouth movements.

The company shared details of the rollout at the ‘House of Instagram’ event held in Mumbai, where it also announced new typography updates for creators. Instagram’s Edits tool will now support Indian scripts, including Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese, enabling text and captions in languages such as Hindi, Marathi, Bengali and Assamese. This feature is expected to roll out on Android devices in the coming days.

Within the Edits interface, creators can access the new fonts through the text tool, with script-based fonts appearing automatically based on device language settings or via manual filtering.

The updates follow a series of creator-focused feature releases over the past month, including AI-based photo and video restyling for Stories, bulk caption editing, video reversal tools, expanded lip-sync functionality and additional sound effects.
