New Delhi: Instagram has introduced "Edits," a new app designed to rival ByteDance's popular video editing tool, CapCut.
Edits was unveiled by Instagram head Adam Mosseri on Threads, describing it as "a full suite of creative tools" aimed at content creators.
The app boasts features that include a dedicated tab for inspiration, the ability to manage early ideas, and a high-quality camera for recording. Users will have access to a range of editing tools, such as generated captions, video filters, voice effects, and AI animations to bring images to life, alongside audio enhancement to remove background noise.
One of the standout features of Edits is its live insights dashboard, which allows creators to track the performance of their Instagram reels directly from the app. This feature is particularly useful for creators looking to understand audience engagement and refine their content strategy accordingly.
According to the iOS App Store listing, Edits will support video recording up to 10 minutes in length, with options to adjust resolution and framerate. The app is set to be available for pre-order on iOS devices, with an expected launch in February, and soon to follow on Android platforms.
The timing of Edits' announcement is seen by many as strategic, especially as CapCut was removed from US app stores over the weekend due to the "foreign adversary controlled applications" ban. Mosseri hinted at the broader context, noting, "There's a lot going on in the world right now," and positioning Edits as a versatile tool not only for Instagram but for content creators across different platforms.
