New Delhi: Meta has launched an AI-powered voice translation tool for creators on Facebook and Instagram, designed to break down language barriers and expand global reach for Reels content.
The feature, rolled out globally on August 20, allows creators to automatically dub their videos into another language while preserving their unique voice, tone, and style, with an optional lip-sync feature for a more authentic viewing experience.
Currently supporting translations between English and Spanish, the tool is available to all public Instagram accounts and Facebook creators with at least 1,000 followers in regions where Meta AI is offered.
Meta plans to expand language support in the coming months, though no specific timeline or additional languages have been announced.
Creators can enable the translation feature by selecting “Translate your voice with Meta AI” before publishing a Reel. The AI, powered by Meta’s SeamlessM4T model, generates a dubbed audio track that mimics the creator’s voice and optionally syncs lip movements to match the translated audio. Creators can preview translations before posting and disable them if needed, ensuring control over the final output. Viewers see a small note indicating the Reel was translated by Meta AI and can opt out of translations via their settings.
For Facebook creators, an additional option allows uploading up to 20 custom dubbed audio tracks per Reel through the Meta Business Suite, offering flexibility for those preferring manual translations. A new Insights metric also enables creators to track viewership by language, providing data on how translations expand their audience.
“This is a game-changer for creators,” said Instagram head Adam Mosseri in a post on the platform. “There are amazing creators out there with potential audiences who don’t speak their language. By helping you reach across linguistic and cultural barriers, we can grow your following and add more value to your experience on Instagram and Facebook.”
Meta reports that early tests of the feature have shown up to a 20% increase in engagement for translated content, highlighting its potential to connect creators with new markets, particularly in Spanish-speaking regions like Latin America and Spain, which represent over 500 million potential viewers.
