New Delhi: YouTuber Jimmy Donaldson, better known as MrBeast, has officially joined the ranks of billionaires, according to Celebrity Net Worth, which estimates his wealth at $1 billion. At just 27, he is now the eighth-youngest billionaire globally and the only one under 30 to have earned his fortune independently, without inheritance.
Donaldson’s journey to digital stardom began in 2012, when, aged 13, he started uploading videos under the username "MrBeast6000". Operating from his home in North Carolina, his early content featured gaming videos centred around Minecraft and Call of Duty, alongside commentary videos and wealth estimations of other YouTubers. His breakthrough came in 2017 with the viral video "I Counted to 100,000", which took 44 hours to film and has amassed over 31 million views.
Known for reinvesting the majority of his earnings into ever-larger productions, MrBeast quickly carved out a niche with challenge videos, elaborate stunts, large-scale giveaways, and philanthropy. His content grew increasingly ambitious—from giving away cars and houses to orchestrating real-life versions of Squid Game—earning him a loyal global following and widespread acclaim.
In 2024, Donaldson was named the top content creator on Forbes’ Top Creators list. Although Forbes had previously pegged his net worth at $85 million, court filings from a 2024 lawsuit involving his fast-food brand revealed that he earned $223 million in 2023, with projections indicating a leap to $700 million in 2024.
Donaldson has successfully diversified his income through business ventures. He launched MrBeast Burger in 2020—a delivery-only fast-food brand that reportedly generated $2.3 million monthly. However, he later filed a lawsuit over quality concerns. His chocolate bar brand Feastables saw a roaring start, bringing in over $10 million within months of launch.
In addition to entrepreneurship, MrBeast has made strategic moves in the tech and crypto sectors. He co-created Juice Funds, a $2 million initiative with Creative Juice, to invest in emerging creators. He also holds assets in Bitcoin, CryptoPunks NFTs, and is affiliated with platforms like Coinbase, Refinable, and XCAD Network.
Philanthropy remains central to his brand. His non-profit, Beast Philanthropy, backs large-scale charitable initiatives. He has given away over 100 cars, donated $1 million in a single video, and supported campaigns like Team Trees, which raised $20 million to plant trees. In 2023, he funded cataract surgeries for 1,000 individuals, a move that garnered both praise and criticism. Undeterred, Donaldson reaffirmed his long-standing promise: “I promise to give away all my money before I die. Every single penny.”
His impact has not gone unnoticed. Among various honours, MrBeast was nominated for Vlogger of the Year at the 2019 Shorty Awards and won Breakout Creator and YouTuber of the Year in 2020. In 2021, he was YouTube’s fastest-growing creator, gaining 37 million subscribers in one year. His expansion into international markets—with dubbed versions of his videos in over 10 languages—has further boosted his global reach. In June 2024, his main channel became the most-subscribed on YouTube.
From counting to 100,000 on camera to building a billion-dollar empire, MrBeast’s story is a masterclass in creativity, persistence, and generosity.
