Orhan Awatramani (Orry)
Social media influencer and Bollywood socialite Orhan Awatramani, better known as Orry, was interrogated for approximately 7.5 hours by Mumbai Police's Anti-Narcotics Cell (ANC) on Wednesday in connection with a Rs 252 crore mephedrone drug seizure case. The questioning, which took place at the ANC's Ghatkopar unit, comes amid allegations linking high-profile celebrities to an international drug trafficking network with ties to underworld figures.
Orry arrived at the office around 1:30 p.m. amid a frenzy of paparazzi and onlookers, who mobbed him as he made his way inside. Dressed casually and wearing glasses, the influencer avoided interacting with the media, pushing through the crowd under tight security.
He emerged from the building around 9 pm, concluding a gruelling session where investigators reportedly pressed him on his alleged attendance at drug-fueled parties organised by a key accused in the case.
As per news reports, Orry denied any involvement in the drug syndicate and did not fully cooperate during the interrogation.
The case stems from a major bust in March 2024, when authorities raided a mephedrone manufacturing unit in Maharashtra's Sangli district, seizing over 126 kg of the synthetic drug valued at Rs 252 crore.
Mephedrone, commonly known as MD or "meow meow," is a Schedule I controlled substance often used in party scenes for its stimulant effects. The investigation escalated earlier this month with the extradition of Mohammed Salim Mohammed Suhail Shaikh, alias Lavish, from Dubai.
Shaikh, described as a close aide to fugitive drug kingpin Salim Dola, who has alleged links to underworld don Dawood Ibrahim, confessed during custody to trafficking drugs using luxury vehicles like BMWs and organising lavish rave parties in Mumbai, Dubai, and other locations.
According to police statements, Shaikh named several prominent figures during his interrogation, claiming they attended these events where drugs were allegedly consumed and distributed. The list included Orry, actors Nora Fatehi and Shraddha Kapoor, filmmakers Abbas-Mustan, rapper Loka, and NCP leader Zeeshan Siddique.
Orry's name surfaced specifically in connection with these gatherings, prompting the ANC to issue him two summonses. He initially requested more time, citing travel commitments, before appearing on November 26.
This is not the first celebrity entanglement in the probe. Just a day earlier, on November 25, Shraddha Kapoor's brother, actor Siddhanth Kapoor, was questioned for about five hours in the same case.
Investigators found his responses unsatisfactory and are considering issuing a fresh summons while scrutinising his bank transactions for any suspicious links to the network. The ANC has emphasised that these summonses are for verification purposes only, and no formal charges have been filed against Orry or others named so far.
Hours after leaving the ANC office, Orry took to Instagram to share a defiant video of himself dancing energetically at a party to the Bollywood track "Aaj Ki Raat" from the film Don.
In the clip, he flips the middle finger to the camera while overlaying text that reads "I am a liver," a playful nod to his self-described "liver" lifestyle. The post, captioned "Just let me live," quickly went viral, drawing mixed reactions from fans and critics alike. Some users speculated it was a direct response to the day's events, with comments joking about him posting "from jail" or during a "questioning break." Orry has not issued any official statement on the allegations.
The investigation continues as authorities aim to dismantle the broader drug syndicate. Police have indicated that more high-profile summonses could follow, underscoring the growing scrutiny on celebrity involvement in narcotics cases. This scandal echoes previous high-profile drug probes in Bollywood, such as the 2020 Sushant Singh Rajput case, which also drew in several stars for questioning.
