New Delhi: The United Arab Emirates (UAE) has introduced a mandatory Advertiser Permit for individuals posting promotional content on social media, set to take effect three months from August 2025, according to the report.

The permit will apply to all individuals aged 18 and above who promote third-party products or services. It will be free of charge for the first three years and must be clearly displayed on registered social media accounts. Advertising will only be allowed through accounts linked to the permit, with prior approval potentially required depending on the content.

Visitor Advertiser Permits will also be introduced, requiring visiting content creators to register through licensed UAE-based advertising or talent agencies. These permits will be valid for three months and can be renewed once.

Exemptions include individuals promoting their own businesses and minors engaged in educational, cultural, or awareness activities, provided the content complies with age classification laws.

The UAE Media Council, which is leading the initiative, said the regulation seeks to enhance transparency, content quality, and professional standards in digital advertising.
