X sues eight individuals for alleged abuse of creator monetisation programme

New Delhi: X, the social media platform formerly known as Twitter, has filed a lawsuit in a U.S. federal court against eight individuals accused of misusing its Creator Revenue Sharing Programme.

According to a post from X’s Global Government Affairs account, the individuals allegedly engaged in fraudulent activities designed to artificially inflate earnings. These included posting inauthentic content, manipulating engagement metrics, and selling automation tools that facilitated deceptive practices on X and other platforms.

“These individuals also sold and used automation tools to manipulate engagement metrics,” the company stated. “We’ll act forcefully to protect the integrity of our platform, no matter where bad actors are located.”

The Creator Revenue Sharing Programme, introduced in 2022 following Elon Musk’s acquisition of the platform, is aimed at rewarding creators whose posts generate engagement from X Premium subscribers. The initiative was part of broader efforts to support independent content creation on the platform.

X said the misuse of the programme distorts genuine engagement and undermines the fairness of content monetisation. While the company has not named the individuals involved or disclosed specific details of the methods used, the lawsuit marks a clear attempt to reinforce the rules governing monetisation on the platform.

The platform noted that ensuring the integrity of the programme is essential to guaranteeing that only “deserving creators” are compensated.
