New Delhi: YouTube has introduced a new set of AI-driven tools for creators and viewers in India, centred on faster editing workflows, more intuitive discovery features and additional safeguards against deepfakes.
The updates were announced at the YouTube Impact Summit 2025 and detailed in a company blog post titled “Empowering Creativity and Connection through AI”. The post said the platform’s broader effort is to “deeply empower human creativity” by reducing friction in video creation and consumption while maintaining clear guardrails.
Edit with AI rolls out to all creators in India
YouTube is extending Edit with AI to all users of the YouTube Create app in India. The tool converts raw footage into a first-draft video by identifying notable moments, sequencing clips, adding music and transitions, and generating English or Hindi voice-overs, including stylised versions such as a cricket-style commentary or shayari.
According to YouTube, the update is intended to cut the time between filming and publication, particularly for smaller creators without access to dedicated editing support. Videos produced using Edit with AI will carry SynthID watermarks from Google DeepMind, in addition to platform labels indicating AI involvement.
Conversational AI embedded in the video player
For viewers, YouTube is introducing a conversational AI tool integrated directly into the video player for users in India. It allows viewers to ask questions and receive responses without pausing or exiting the video.
YouTube said the feature could, for instance, provide a full ingredient list from a cooking video or offer recommendations for related content. The tool is currently available in English, with Hindi support “coming soon”. For brands and content strategists, the update may create more structured interactions around videos and provide additional pathways to surface series, playlists or educational material.
Likeness detection to address AI misuse
YouTube is also rolling out likeness detection in open beta to all creators in the YouTube Partner Program. First announced at the Made on YouTube event, the system scans the platform to show creators where their facial likeness appears, including in manipulated or synthetic videos.
Creators can request the removal of misleading or unauthorised content featuring their face, adding another layer of protection at a time when deepfake production is becoming more accessible. YouTube describes the measure as a way to support both creators and viewers by reducing the likelihood of impersonation or scam-driven videos.
Part of a broader India creator and skilling roadmap
The updates are part of YouTube’s larger India-focused initiatives highlighted at the Summit, including new collaborations with the Indian Institute of Creative Technologies (IICT) to support training in AVGC-XR, and a partnership with AIIMS’ College of Nursing to offer expert medical training on the platform.
These developments accompany YouTube’s previously shared skilling programmes and economic impact estimates, which cite contributions of over Rs 16,000 crore to India’s GDP and support for more than 9.3 lakh jobs through the wider creator ecosystem.
