YouTube unveils updates for creators with Shorts Effects Maker and improved comment controls
YouTube introduces stricter comment controls and new BrandConnect tagging options, giving creators more oversight on collaborations and advertiser use of content
New Delhi: YouTube is introducing a series of updates for creators, including the wider rollout of its “Effects Maker” tool for Shorts, new options for comment management, and enhanced tagging features for brand collaborations.
The platform confirmed that more creators will now be able to access “Effects Maker,” which enables them to create, publish and manage visual effects for Shorts. The feature has been under testing for the past year and is currently available only on desktop.
As YouTube explained, “[Effects Maker] is only available on desktop for now, and we don’t have specifics on expansion to mobile, but we’ll keep you posted. When you publish an effect, it will be available to all users that are eligible to create shorts.”
Creators will also be able to showcase their effects on their channel, while YouTube is testing generative AI features to expand creative options.
In addition to the creative tools, the platform is also introducing new comment control options within YouTube Studio. Until now, creators could only act on a limited number of comments at a time. The update introduces bulk actions, with YouTube stating, “Up until now, creators could only select a limited number of comments to action on at one time. Now, we’re adding the ability for creators to select all comments and take action, like ‘remove’ or ‘report.’”
Creators will also be able to limit comments to subscribers, though YouTube clarified that this setting is currently available only at the individual video level.
Another update concerns YouTube’s BrandConnect collaboration features, which will allow creators to tag brand partners during the upload process or when editing clips. The platform said the change will give creators more control over how advertisers use content.
“This also enables advertisers to promote a creator’s sponsored content to a wider audience via Partnership Ads, which increase the visibility of the collaboration and can drive additional traffic to a creator’s channel through a ‘Subscribe’ button, which will be included in the ad. Creators with branded mentions will have increased visibility in the advertisers’ Creator Partnerships Hub, and may be suggested to new brands for additional campaigns.”
Advertisers will also be able to view video performance data for tagged clips. The feature will be available globally through the YouTube main app or YouTube Studio for creators enrolled in the YouTube Partner Programme.
