New Delhi: YouTube has launched an AI-powered feature called Music Assistant, designed to empower content creators by allowing them to generate custom, royalty-free instrumental tracks for their videos.

The tool, integrated into YouTube’s Creator Music marketplace, aims to simplify the process of adding background music while eliminating the risk of copyright claims.

The Music Assistant enables creators to input text prompts describing the desired mood, genre, or specific instruments—such as “upbeat electronic dance music for a travel vlog” or “calm acoustic guitar for a cooking tutorial.”

The AI then generates multiple original tracks tailored to the prompt, which creators can preview, download, and incorporate into their videos via YouTube Studio.

This feature builds on YouTube’s earlier AI music experiments, like Dream Tracks, but focuses on producing longer, versatile instrumentals suitable for a wide range of video formats.

The tool is currently rolling out to US-based members of the YouTube Partner Program with access to Creator Music, with plans for broader availability in the future.

Unlike traditional royalty-free music libraries, Music Assistant offers a personalised approach, giving creators granular control over their soundtracks.

The launch comes amid growing interest in AI-driven music tools, with companies like Stability AI and Meta also exploring similar technologies.
