This World MSME Month, Equitas Small Finance Bank is celebrating the powerful and empowering journey of its women customers with a video tribute, which narrates their tale of hard work, grit and courage.

This edition of “Circle of Life” Series features transformative stories of women who have brought about a positive change within themselves and empowered people in their community.

One such story is of Kismat - a woman from a small village in Rajasthan, who had the courage to rewrite her Kismat (destiny). Shattered by the sudden loss of her loving husband, Kismat didn’t want to surrender to what destiny had for her. She gathered the courage to step out of her house, against the social constraints on women, earning for her living in the small village of Jodhpur. Learning the art of stitching, she weaved her destiny to what she dreamt of.

The video follows the incredible journey of Kismat - right from her birth in a small village in Rajasthan to becoming an embodiment of empowerment. Starting her life with the Rs 500 left by her husband, she fought against the odds to buy herself a stitching machine, and from there, everything turned out better for her. Today, she is providing employment to four women, empowering them to sew their destiny as well.

The ‘Circle of Life’ series drives home the point that money can be used as a force for good. The web series is available on the social media platforms of Equitas Small Finance Bank.

According to the International Finance Corporation, the credit gap for women-owned 15 million MSMEs stands at $158 billion (around Rs 12 lakh crore) with 90 per cent of such women entrepreneurs depending on informal and high interest medium to finance their ventures. Equitas SFB aims to enable and empower such women-led businesses through their offerings.

With a single-minded focus on making banking simpler for all, the institution has been instrumental in generating livelihoods for innumerable customers and the video of Kismat is one such in those series after the story of Dhanlakshmi and Shanthi.
