About three months after the ban on TikTok, YouTube has launched its short-form video platform Shorts in India. Over the next few days in India, YouTube will be launching an early beta of Shorts with a handful of new creation tools to test this out.

This is an early version of the product, but YouTube will be releasing it now to bring its global community of users, creators and artists on its journey to build and improve Shorts.

YouTube said it will continue to add more features and expand to more countries in the coming months on feedbacks.

Shorts are a new way to express self in 15 seconds or less, and the team is focused on building its foundation across three main areas:

  • Create: Creation is at the core of short-form video, and YT wants to make it easy and fun to create Shorts. The company is starting to test just a few new tools for creators and artists with our early beta in India:

*A multi-segment camera to string multiple video clips together,

*The option to record with music from a large library of songs that will continue to grow,

*Speed controls that give you the flexibility to be creative in your performance,

*And a timer and countdown to easily record, hands-free.

YouTube also recently rolled-out a prominent new spot for the create icon on Android, starting in India. It will expand to iOS devices and in more countries soon.

“Every month, two billion viewers come to YouTube to laugh, learn and connect. Creators have built entire businesses on YouTube, and the company wants to enable the next generation of mobile creators to also grow a community on YouTube with Shorts,” the company said.

YT is encouraging mobile creators or artists to start uploading their existing short videos today to start getting discovered.

YT introduced a new watch experience that lets easily swipe vertically from one video to the next, plus discovers other similar short videos.

“There’s much more to come, and over the next few weeks and months, we’ll continue to roll out more creation tools and easier ways to watch short videos on YouTube as we listen to your feedback.
