New Delhi: A formal complaint has been lodged against prominent YouTuber Ranveer Allahbadia, along with other participants of the popular show 'India's Got Latent', for allegedly making offensive remarks during a live episode.

Deputy Commissioner of Police (Zone 9) Dixit Gedam said an inquiry was underway on the complaint.

No case has been registered so far.

The backlash stems from comments made by Allahbadia, known for his 'BeerBiceps' channel, which was perceived as vulgar and disrespectful, leading to immediate public outcry.

Allahbadia made the remarks on a recent episode of the show, where he appeared as a guest alongside popular content creators Ashish Chanchlani, Jaspreet Singh, and Apoorva Mukhija.

The incident unfolded during a recent episode where Allahbadia posed a question to a contestant that many viewers found to be in poor taste and offensive. The complaint, filed at a local police station in Mumbai, accuses the show's team of promoting content that undermines the dignity of individuals, particularly women, and seeks legal action under relevant sections of the Indian Penal Code for obscenity and insult to modesty.

The controversy quickly escalated on social media platforms, with hashtags like #BoycottIndiaGotLatent trending as netizens expressed their disappointment and anger.

The show, known for its comedic and talent-based content, has faced scrutiny for content that some argue crosses the line of decency.

BJP functionary Nilotpal Mrinal Pandey, in his complaint to Khar police in Mumbai, named Raina, Allahbadia and others, accusing them of using derogatory language on the show, an official said.

He has submitted a video in a pen drive along with the written complaint, the official said.

Pandey has demanded action against such people, and alleged that the show promotes abusive language, vulgarity and nudity, which negatively impacts the youth and goes against the Indian cultural values, as per the police.

In response to the uproar, Ranveer Allahbadia issued a public apology on his social media accounts. "I deeply regret my lapse in judgment. My intention was never to hurt or offend anyone. I apologise for my words and will strive to be more mindful in the future," he stated.

This apology has been met with mixed reactions, with some appreciating the acknowledgement of the mistake, while others feel it does not sufficiently address the severity of the comments made.

Legal experts and social commentators have been discussing the implications of this event, highlighting the responsibilities of content creators in the digital age. There's a growing debate on the balance between freedom of expression and the ethical boundaries of public discourse, especially when it influences a large, impressionable audience.
