New Delhi: Instagram has announced updates that will allow creators to translate and customise their content in more Indian languages while maintaining the tone and authenticity of their videos.
According to the company, Meta AI will soon support translation of reels into Bengali, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Marathi. Earlier this year, creators were able to dub and lip-sync their content into English, Hindi, Spanish, and Portuguese.
With the new update, the same capability will extend to five additional languages, allowing creators to reach broader audiences both nationally and internationally.
The translation tool is designed to preserve the original voice and tone of creators. A lip-syncing feature is also available, which aligns translated audio with the movements of the speaker’s mouth, creating the appearance that the creator is speaking the translated language.
In addition, Instagram has introduced new Indian fonts for text and captions in Edits. Creators will be able to use scripts such as Devanagari and Bengali-Assamese for languages including Hindi, Marathi, Bengali, and Assamese.
This update will be available on Android devices in the coming days. Users can access these fonts through the “Text” option in the editing timeline and filter by language if necessary.
These changes follow other recent features aimed at content creation, including restyling photos and videos in Instagram Stories, bulk editing captions, reversing videos, and applying lip-sync effects to bring images to life. Creators now also have access to more than 400 additional sound effects through the Edits tool.
