New Delhi: Indian women’s cricket vice-captain Smriti Mandhana and music composer Palash Muchhal were set to tie the knot on November 23, but the high-profile wedding has now been indefinitely postponed.
What began as a straightforward family emergency has quickly spiralled into one of the most discussed celebrity developments online, driven by health concerns, deleted Instagram posts, and a viral screenshot that has set social media buzzing.
The first confirmed development came when Mandhana’s father, Shrinivas Mandhana, suffered a sudden medical emergency. According to her team, he fell seriously unwell during breakfast and had to be rushed to a hospital.
While his condition is stable, doctors advised continued observation. His unexpected hospitalisation prompted both families to re-evaluate ongoing wedding preparations.
Around the same time, Palash Muchhal was also briefly hospitalised in Mumbai. Though he was discharged and is recovering, the back-to-back health issues created uncertainty for the couple.
Mandhana’s manager, Tuhin Mishra, confirmed that the wedding is postponed “until everything settles and the family is okay,” clarifying it is deferred indefinitely.
Deletion of Instagram posts sparks speculation
However, what turned a private family situation into a national talking point was Smriti Mandhana’s sudden removal of all pre-wedding and engagement posts from her Instagram profile. The celebratory videos featuring her teammates also disappeared.
In the age of social-media signalling, such a move rarely goes unnoticed. Screenshots of her now-deleted posts began circulating on X and Instagram, prompting questions about whether the postponement was strictly health-related or indicative of bigger personal differences.
‘Mary D’Costa’ screenshots add fuel to the fire
Things escalated rapidly when viral screenshots, allegedly showing Palash in a questionable conversation with another woman, began spreading across social media platforms. The name “Mary D’Costa,” referenced in posts, trended for hours as users speculated about her connection to Muchhal. She was reportedly about to choreograph the duo for their wedding!
Both families have maintained complete silence on the circulating rumours. Their representatives insist that the postponement stems solely from her father’s health concerns, stressing that this remains the family’s immediate priority and urging the public to respect their privacy.
