This Women’s Day, Extramarks Education released a new film titled ‘The Trailblazers of Kashmir’, featuring a girls’ football team from International Delhi Public School (IDPS), Bandipora, a remote school in Kashmir.

The film displays how a group of young girls defied societal norms to build the village's first-ever women's football team for the inaugural season of the Extramarks Youth Football Championship (YFC) in partnership with Arsenal.

With this campaign, Extramarks shows its commitment to supporting and empowering young girls who dream big and make a difference.

Neha Mishra, Vice-President- Marketing Experiences, Extramarks Education, said, “The Youth Football Championship by Extramarks Education in partnership with Arsenal FC was a way to provide holistic development to young students. The Kashmir girls’ team is a stellar example of what it takes to live your dream and work towards it. Excellence is a by-product of passion and determination and with this tournament, we wanted to provide a platform to these young adults and help them experience the spirit of sports through teamwork. In a country like India with a vast youth population, it is critical for us to provide a platform to children from various communities to be a part of the future of this country.”

Conceptualised and executed by Extramarks the three-minute-sixteen-second video showcases the girls’ journey to the zonal match in New Delhi.

Narrated by the chairman of IDPS, Fayyaz Ahmed, the film depicts the story of the team by introducing them and their school and elucidating how they came together to create the first-ever girls’ football team hailing from Bandipora. The video depicts various challenges they faced; in seeking parents’ permission, practicing individually at home due to heavy snowfall, and wearing football kits for the first time along with their traditional garb to represent the team. The hurdles didn’t end there, as their flight to New Delhi got cancelled due to the harsh weather conditions. The team then took a 30-hour bus ride and competed at the zonal matches with limited rest. The video shows some clips of the matches. However, the result was not in their favour. The girls can be seen disheartened but the film ends on a pleasant note as Ahmed shares how they created a huge impact in the community through their courage and determination.

Extramarks Youth Football Championship is a pan-India inter-school football tournament. Extramarks aims to provide an opportunity for young girls and boys U-15 (born between 2008 and 2010) to play professionally and for schools to participate in an international sporting experience.

The qualifier rounds for the championship were held across 50 cities in India between November-February while the semi-finals will be held in Goa on April 6, 2023, following which the finals will be held at the Emirates stadium in London on June 2, 2023. The championship observed an overall participation from 822 schools in India.
